I worked in the Specification Office at Standard from 1966-1972 when I left to have my son. My dad worked in the drawing office for 40 years (as his dad did before him) before he retired around 1980. My husband worked in the Rocket Range, Top Shop, No.15 shop and No.21 shop around 1974. I have great memories of my time working there.

The tea lady. Part time hours 10am to 3pm, mid 50s , she would bring the tea pot on the tray with the cups and saucers at about 10am and 3pm to the office staff both wages and accounts staff, we helped ourselves. Our hours were 9am to 5pm. Management in their own offices had theirs separate taken in to them by her.

I worked on the Barb line in the Rocket Range. Ted Smith, Johnny Jones, Larry? and Dave Dutton were the foremen. I then moved to the Engine Shop. Charlie Swain was the superintendant with Harry Woodfield his deputy. Good days!

66 men were killed serving in the Great War and their names are inscribed on the memorial stone by the promenade at London Road Cemetery.
Inscription:
Erected in loving memory of our comrades who gave their lives for liberty in the Great War 1914-1918 by the staff and employees of the Triumph and Gloria companies. 'He was a man and nothing that effected the human race was foreign to him.'
